Secretary of State Acknowledges Gaza Cease-Fire Depends on Hamas

Negotiators for Hamas left recent talks in Cairo.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken referenced a plan President Joe Biden mentioned during his State of the Union address to transport aid to Gaza by sea. The joint humanitarian project, which would involve a temporary pier along the Gaza coast, includes the European Union, Cyprus, Britain, and the United Arab Emirates.

Secretary Blinken stated that the U.S. is committed to negotiating a cease-fire despite Hamas negotiators’ departure from discussions in Cairo.

“In this moment, in this hour, we’re also intensely focused on seeing if we can get a cease-fire,” Secretary Blinken said. “And there, the issue is Hamas. The issue is whether Hamas will decide or not to have a cease-fire that would benefit everyone. The ball is in their court. We’re working intensely on it.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For wisdom for the president and secretary of state as they seek to provide aid to the Palestinians.
  • For U.S. officials and military leaders as they work with allies on the humanitarian project in Gaza.
